About Course

This course empowers educators to critically engage with educational research and apply evidence-based strategies to improve teaching and learning. Participants will explore how to identify high-quality research, evaluate its relevance to their own context, and integrate findings into lesson planning, assessment, and classroom management. The course bridges the gap between academic theory and practical classroom application, fostering reflective and data-informed teaching practices.

Course Content

Unit 1: Foundations of Research-Informed Practice
Overview: Introduces the value of research in education and the difference between research-based, research-validated, and evidence-informed practice. Students Will Learn To: Define research-informed practice Distinguish between different types of educational research Understand how research supports teacher professionalism and student outcomes

Unit 2: Finding and Evaluating Educational Research
Overview: Focuses on accessing reputable sources and developing skills to critically assess studies. Students Will Learn To: Navigate sources like ERIC, JSTOR, Google Scholar, and academic journals Understand key elements of a research paper (abstract, methodology, results) Evaluate reliability, validity, and relevance to classroom settings

Unit 3: Translating Research into Practice
Overview: Guides teachers in connecting research to instructional decision-making. Students Will Learn To: Use research findings to inform lesson planning and pedagogy Identify transferable strategies from studies across contexts Adapt evidence-based methods to suit specific classroom needs

Unit 4: Evidence-Based Instructional Strategies
Overview: Explores specific, high-impact strategies backed by research. Students Will Learn To: Apply strategies such as retrieval practice, spaced learning, feedback for learning, and formative assessment Understand the research behind collaborative learning, direct instruction, and metacognition Design activities that are both engaging and grounded in evidence

Unit 5: Action Research and Reflective Teaching
Overview: Introduces tools for educators to conduct small-scale research in their own classrooms. Students Will Learn To: Plan and implement a basic action research cycle Collect and interpret classroom data (observations, surveys, student work) Reflect systematically on teaching practices for continuous improvement

Unit 6: Building a Culture of Research Engagement
Overview: Explores how schools can become learning organizations through shared inquiry.
